Why choose SupaboardClaude is excellent at the one-off version of this question: upload a file, get a careful answer, move on. Supaboard exists for the version that repeats, the same metric asked by different people, that needs one governed SQL definition, a live warehouse connection, and a dashboard or alert that fires without anyone re-prompting. The two aren't mutually exclusive: because Supaboard speaks MCP, the protocol Anthropic built, a team can keep living in Claude for everything else and still reach Supaboard's governed agent from inside it.

Why choose Supaboard over Claude

Claude is excellent at the one-off version of this question: upload a file, get a careful answer, move on.

Supaboard vs Claude, in our own words

The honest question a lot of buyers ask before they ever look at a BI tool is simpler than any feature comparison: why not just connect Claude to a spreadsheet and ask it what happened? Claude is a genuinely capable general AI assistant from Anthropic, and it's good at exactly the kind of careful, multi-step reasoning a business question needs. It's also worth saying plainly: Anthropic invented the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard that lets an AI assistant connect to outside data and tools instead of every vendor building a one-off integration, and MCP is exactly the protocol Supaboard uses to make itself reachable from inside Claude Desktop and Claude.ai. That's real, specific credit, not a footnote. The honest answer to "why not just Claude" depends entirely on whether the need is a one-off analysis or an ongoing, governed, company-wide system that more than one person relies on.

Where the cost actually lands

Claude Pro looks cheap at $17-20 a month, and even a Team seat at $20-25 looks cheap next to a BI tool's per-seat price. What that price doesn't include is the analyst time spent re-doing the same ad-hoc pull every time someone asks the same question, because there's no persistent connection to a warehouse, no dashboard the next person can open without re-explaining context, and no audit trail showing which numbers came from where. The seat fee turns out to be the smallest line item in that math.

What is actually different

Claude's code execution tool runs real Python and Bash in a sandboxed container and can analyze whatever file or connection you attach to that conversation. That's genuinely useful, and it's a real strength for a one-off question. What it isn't is an ongoing, governed connection to your company's systems: the sandbox is scoped to that session, not a live link a whole team queries against.

Claude Cowork narrows this gap more than most people expect. It can schedule a task to run unattended on a cadence, pull numbers from connected apps like Google Drive, Microsoft 365, Slack, or Amplitude, compare them to the prior period, flag anything that moved more than 10%, and build the deck. That's real scheduled reporting, sourced directly from Anthropic's own product page, not a hypothetical. But it's a per-user task against the apps you've individually connected to it, not a company-wide alert system on a live warehouse, and there's no indication it's routed or shared to a team the way a BI report is.

Artifacts are the closest thing Claude has to a shareable data app: they can persist state across sessions and be published so others can view them. But a published Artifact is still one person's object from one conversation, not a managed dashboard product with scheduled refresh and role-based access for a whole team to open on their own terms.

Claude Projects can be shared org-wide on Team and Enterprise plans, with per-project knowledge and instructions and "can view" or "can edit" permissions. That's real, useful context-sharing. But each project is a separate, opt-in workspace someone has to set up and share; it isn't one governed ruleset of business definitions and metric logic that every user inherits automatically in every session, the way a company-wide semantic layer works.

None of this makes Claude worse at what it's built for. Adaptive thinking lets it reason at real depth on a hard multi-step question, which is a genuine, well-documented strength worth crediting on its own terms. And the fact that Anthropic built MCP means this isn't strictly either/or: because Supaboard exposes its own MCP server, a team already living in Claude for everything else can add Supaboard as a connector and reach a governed agent, with SQL shown beside every answer, without leaving the conversation.

What to test if you trial both

Don't compare feature lists, run the same recurring business question through both. Connect Claude to Supaboard's MCP server and ask it the question you'd otherwise ask in a plain Claude conversation with a spreadsheet attached, then hand both answers to a colleague who wasn't in the room. See which one they can check themselves, the SQL, the source, the confidence score, and which one shows up Monday morning as a live report or dashboard nobody had to re-run.

Frequently asked questions

Claude Pro is $17 a month. Why would I pay $99/seat for Supaboard?

Because the seat price isn't the real cost. A Claude conversation answers one question well, once, for one person; it doesn't keep a governed connection to your warehouse, doesn't leave a shareable dashboard the next person can open, and doesn't show an audit trail. Supaboard's seat includes usage credits and buys a system the whole team can query and trust, not a single answer.

Can I use Supaboard from inside Claude?

Yes. Supaboard exposes its own MCP server, and MCP is Anthropic's own open protocol, so Claude Desktop and Claude.ai can connect to it as a remote connector. You don't have to choose between them: Supaboard can also read other MCP servers, like Notion, for context.

What does Supaboard produce that a Claude conversation doesn't?

A live dashboard from one prompt that the whole team can open, threshold and anomaly alerts described in plain English, and scheduled PDF/PowerPoint/Excel reports delivered on a recurring cadence, plus the SQL shown beside every answer so someone else can verify it without re-asking you.

Does Claude remember our specific business rules and metric definitions across the whole team by default?

Not by default. Claude Projects can be shared org-wide on Team and Enterprise plans, but each project is a separate, opt-in workspace with its own knowledge base someone has to set up. There's no single governed ruleset that every user and every session automatically inherits.

Can Supaboard self-host in our own VPC, and can it use Claude as the model provider?

Yes. Supaboard's Enterprise plan supports running in your own VPC, and Enterprise customers can route model traffic directly to Anthropic if Claude is the provider they've already standardized on.
